HOMECOMING
ACTIVITIES
Official Document
adopted Fall 2006
1. Student Council plans Homecoming Week and Activities
2. The GAA and Letterman Club will plan the Assembly together. The Assembly will be on Friday.
3. Each Class is responsible for decorating a section of the hall as designated by the Student Council. There is a theme that will be used to help coordinate the hall decorations.
4. Monday-Thursday are Dress-up days with a different theme each day. EXAMPLE: Monday is Hat Day, Tuesday is Dress Alike Day, Wednesday is Celebrity Day, Thursday is Blue and Gold (School Colors) Day, and Friday is Formal Day. The Dance is Saturday.
5. Thursday night is the Noise Parade, Skits, Pep Rally, Bonfire, and Crowing of the King and Queen. The Noise Parade is downtown. City does not require parade permits. Each Class is responsible for getting a “float” for the parade with adult drivers and the Class Advisor rides on the back of the float with the students. This can be a dangerous activity and care should be taken to reduce injury. Skits are held in front of Hardware store. Advisors must approve the skits. Student Council should make arrangements with Hardware store for permission to do the skits in front of their store. The bonfire and crowning are at the high school. Hot Chocolate and donuts are provided by the Student Council and will be served after the crowing of the King and Queen. The Arlington Fire Department makes a determination whether to burn the bonfire or not. Following the bonfire, the Court will be escorted onto the Track (Princesses are responsible for vehicle and driver – must be approved by Class Advisor). The King and Queen will dress during the bonfire and get into the cars ready to go onto the Football Field when the Football Field Lights go on. After the Bonfire activities, the Football Field lights will be turned on and everyone will dismiss to the stadium for the entry and announcement of the King and Queen. The Student Council will make arrangements for the Announcer, someone to turn on and off the field lights. (PA should be set up and tested in advance.)
6. Points are awarded for each of the following events (Student Council will be responsible for the judges):
A. Each Dress-up Day
B. Hall Decorations
C. Parade
D. Skits
The Class with the most points will be awarded with the “Spirit Stick” at the Pep Assembly on Friday.
7. Homecoming Court – Each Class will select a Homecoming Princess. It has been tradition that once a girl has been elected as a Homecoming Princess that she is ineligible to be elected to the Homecoming Court in the future unless all of the girls in the class have been Homecoming Princess. All senior girls will be eligible the senior year to be elected as a princess unless they are a 5th year senior. If the Senior Class elects a girl that has already been a princess, they will also elect a second princess that has not been a princess. The Senior class will have one or two Senior princesses depending on the election outcomes. The Letterman Club will vote by secret ballot for the Queen, which will be announced at the Homecoming Dance. Each Class will elect a Homecoming Escort. The Girls Athletic Association (GAA) will elect a King by secret ballot from the Escorts for Homecoming King. The Student Council will also provide for the Flowers and the Crown for the Queen. Flowers will need to be ordered in advance and available at the Dance on Saturday. The crown will need to be ordered through the high school office.
8. Attached is a score sheet for the hall decorations, class skits, and noise parade. The daily dress up score sheets are also attached.
9. Homecoming decorations may be done only when an advisor or advisor approved adult is present.
10. No decorating shall be done after 8:00 a.m. on Friday.
11. Posters and banners should be painted on the linoleum areas only, not over the rug areas in the library, classrooms or hallways.
12. Each class should have their truck-length banners depicting their class (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors) ready before Thursday evening.
13. Trucks used in the Noise Parade on Thursday evening should be driven by their owners and not left on school grounds Thursday night.
14. The Homecoming Dance will be held in the Cafetorium (or other location TBA) from 9:00-11:00 p.m. (subject to change) The cost of the dance will be $3.00 for singles and $5.00 for couples. The usual school rules will be in effect for both students and alumni. If a student is going to bring a guest from another school, they must get permission from the office in advance (see rules in student handbook).
15. Dress for the dance is good school clothes or better.
