Conventional Bug Collection 

 Task:  Create a collection of insects and arachnids.  The specimens must be properly mounted, identified, and labeled.  Also the specimens must reside in a display box with a clear lid.  10 of the 25 required specimens may be purchased or traded, the rest must be captured by the owner of the collection. 

 Labels:  Must include:  Order, scientific name, common name, where caught, date caught and by whom.

 Mounting:  All non-soft bodied specimens must be mounted as if they were walking.  Certain varieties have other special mounting techniques which will be demonstrated during the first work session. 

Bug Collection-P/P alternative

Task:  Create a collection of insect and arachnid representations.  The specimens must be properly mounted, identified, and labeled.  Also the specimens must reside in a display box with a clear lid.  Pictures must be printed or cut out, life size, and fused onto stiff fabric or paper and mounted as if they were walking.  Inorganic representations or live collections are acceptable with prior approval.

 Labels:  Must include:  Common name, Scientific name, Order, Where they live, Where obtained (site/magazine), and date "caught". (see examples)

 Mounting:  All "specimens" must be mounted on fusable fabric or poseable paper as if they were walking in a box with a clear lid.  Scale must be true to life unless noted in label.
