Dear Parents and Students:
Re: College credit
through the Expanded Options Program.
The
2005 Oregon Legislature enacted Senate Bill 300, the Expanded Options
Program, to begin in the 2006-2007 school year. The statute requires that
we notify parents and students of the Expanded Options Program before
February 1, and that parents and students must notify us before March 1 if
they are interested in participating so that we may plan for the next
year.
To be eligible for the new Expanded Options Program, the student:
Ü
must
be in grade 11 or 12 or be 16 years old or older at the time of
enrollment,
Ü
must
have an approved educational learning plan on file with the high school,
and
Ü
must
not have
received a high school diploma.
In
addition, please note that:
Ü
the
Program does not include any course that duplicates a course we already
offer,
Ü
participation in the Expanded Options Program is contingent on acceptance
by an eligible post-secondary institution,
Ü
must
take the course from a public university or community college.
Ü
Successful completion of courses in the program may count toward high
school graduation, but do not change the district requirements,
Ü
failure
to complete an eligible post-secondary course with a passing grade of D or
better may delay high school graduation and affect the student’s
eligibility for the Program, and may affect eligibility for co-curricular
and extra-curricular activities,
Ü
there
is no cost to you for participating in the new Expanded Options Program.
Eligible Program expenses will either be paid directly by the high school
or be reimbursed depending upon the budget resources required by the State
and,
Ü
Transportation will not be provided by the high school.
If you are interested in the new Expanded Options Program for the next
school year, you must notify our office before
March 1, 2006.
You may send a letter
to Arlington School Superintendent, or call 541-454-2632.
Sincerely,
David Beasley
