BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL

A.  Uniform color:  White at home, dark when away

B.  The Big Sky Conference for basketball shall be divided into two halves, the East and the West.  Member teams are to be decided upon by the member schools

C.  Schools will play all schools in their half twice and all schools in the other half once.  All games will count toward league standings. 

      1.   Game times:  Tuesday and Friday          Saturday

            JV Girls      3:00 PM                             1:00 PM

            JV Boys     4:30 PM                             2:30 PM

            V Girls       6:00 PM                             4:00 PM

            V Boys 7:30 PM                                   5:00 PM           

            Unless mutually agreed upon otherwise.  Varsity times should remain constant.

      2.   Rosters will be sent to all league schools one week prior to the first league game.

            (Roster will include name, number, height, year, and position.)

D.  In case of a tie in either half at the end of league play, the following league tie breaking process will be used:

                        a.   Win-Loss record, head-to-head

                        b.   AZZI System (+5 and -5 points) head-to-head

                        c.   AZZI System (+5 and -5 points) in league play

d.   Play off game at a neutral site (site and times are to be arranged through mutual coordination between the participating schools.)

      1.   If two teams tie for first place or second place, the seeding for the District tournament shall be decided by the league tie-breaker process.

      2.   If three teams tie for first, and the head-to-head record does not break the tie, the team with the greatest AZZI points descried in (b) and then (c) above shall be the first seeded team at District, and the remaining two teams shall enter the tie-breaking process.

      3.   If three teams tie for second, and the head-to-head record does not break the tie, the ream with the smallest AZZI points described in (b) then (c) above shall be eliminated and the remaining two teams shall enter the tie-breaking process to determine the #2 and #3 seeds.

      4.   If three teams tie for third, and the head-to-head record does not break the tie, the team with the smallest AZZI points described in (b) then (c) above shall be eliminated and the remaining two teams shall have a playoff game at a neutral site the Monday prior to the district tournament to determine the #3 seed.

      5.   If 4 teams tie for first, the team with the greatest AZZI point spread described in 1.b. then 1.c. above shall be the first seeded team at District.  The remaining teams will go to step #3 above.

      6.   If two teams tie for third, go to tie-breaker (a).  If they are still tied, then they shall have a playoff game at a neutral site the Monday prior to the district tournament to determine the #3 seed.

E.   Three teams form each half (both boys and girls) shall be represented at the District Tournament.  This will be revisited after each re-districting by the OSAA.

F.   Conduct of Fans:  (From 1976-77 National Federation rules for Basketball)  “Question – who is responsible for behavior of spectators?  Answer- The home management of game committee, insofar as they can reasonably be expected to control the spectators.  The officials may call fouls on either team if its supporters act in such a way as to interfere with the proper conduct of the game.

G.  Sportsmanship- At every league varsity game, officials will fill out a sportsmanship ballot to be supplied by the home athletic director.  These ballots will be tabulated the elected sportsmanship chair and the final results will determine the overall league sportsmanship winner.  This school will be announced at the district tournament and awarded a large board for their gym.

H.  Conducting the Game:

      1.   Not later than 10 minutes before game time, each team shall supply the official scorer with:

                        a.   Name and number of each squad member who may participate.

                        b.   The five starting player’ names and numbers

      2.   Before game time, starting line-ups may be announced.

      3.   Before game time, the National Anthem or Pledge of Allegiance may be played or conducted.

      4.   Teams shall be allowed a minimum of 15 minutes warm-up time before each game.

      5.   The official game ball for Big Sky Conference shall be the OSAA designated championship ball.

I.    In all league forfeitures the winning team will be awarded the maximum number of AZZI points (+5 and -5 points).
