Who? students in Columbia High School's Advanced Metals Tech class and our TSA students

 Learning Objectives

 Students will:

  • get excited about learning mechanical and fabrication skills

  • explore careers related to the transportation industry

  • experience opportunities for leadership, teamwork and communication.

  • design and build electrical circuits

  • read and follow blueprints, schematics and technical literature

  • rebuild and tune engines

  • build relationships with mentors from the community

  • learn to drive the sand rail in a controlled environment

Safety and Supervision

  • Students will be supervised at all times by certified instructor: Mr.Hipskind

  • Sandrail will be inspected by ASE Certified mechanic Buz Morris

  • Students will wear 5 point safety harness and helmet when driving Sandrail in open field

  • with instructor on-board with tandem brake controls to ensure safety.

After the Build:

  • The Sandrail will be auctioned off with the net proceeds funding next year’s project.
