December 1                 American Legion  

This is a national oratorical contest.   You must present a memorized speech, 8 to 10 minutes in length, talking about the Constitution of the United States as it relates to being a good citizen of the United States.   You must also answer questions about the Constitution.   Contests are local, regional, state and national.   Intent to enter must be submitted by December 1.   Apply at: www.legion.org

 

 

 

December 1                 SAE Engineering Scholarships

December 9                  Four Chaplains Art Contest

Art contest with prizes from $500-1000.  Themed.  Look for information on this year's theme at Four Chaplains 

December 10                National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences

Highly qualified students who plan to enter a 4year college and major in a communications related field.   The scholarship committee will look at the candidate's creative accomplishments and leadership skills as well as academic portfolio. December 15                Burger King Scholars

National scholarship; $1000 award; 1 student will be nominated from Newberg High School based on a minimum 2.5 to a maximum of 3.5, working an average of 15 hours a week, activities, financial need, letters of recommendation, planning to attend 2 year, 4 year or technical school. December 15                AXA Achievement Scholarship Program

National scholarship; $10,000 scholarships to 52 students, one in each state, DC and Puerto Rico; $15,000 additional scholarships to 10 National recipients. The national scholarship winners will also be offered internships at AXA offices and a computer for college, bringing their grand total educational support to more than $25,000! December 31                VFW Tribute Scholarship

The Veterans' Tribute Scholarship is available to children and grandchildren, ages 15 through 18, of all U.S. military veterans, active duty, Reserves and National Guard. First place is $10,000; second place is $5,000 and third place is $3,000.
Points are given to entrants based on their personal academic achievement, family VFW involvement and their parent's or grandparent's military service. Application link

 

December 31                 Elks National Foundation Scholarship: Emergency Educational Fund Grants

Award ranges up to $3,000 and is only good for one year. This scholarship provides financial assistance to children of deceased or totally disabled elks, who wish to obtain or further their college education. Application can be requested at all local Elks lodges.   Go to: www.elks.org

 

January 12                  Elks Legacy Scholarship

Applicant must be a child or grandchild (or stepchild, step grandchild, or legal ward) of an Elk who has been a member for at least 2 years.   Award based on test scores, transcript, application, biographical questionnaire, letters of reference.   Initial application must be postmarked by January 12, 2007.   Apply at : www.elks.org

 

January 13                   Elks Most Valuable Student

Local, District and National winners; Awards based on application, essay, financial need, transcript, test scores, letters of recommendation, copies of exhibits.   6 awards given to local students.   1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd place awards to both boys and girls.   $1000 for 1 st , $250 for 2 nd and $150 for 3 rd .   All applicants are awarded $25.   Application must be neatly organized and typed.  Liminted number of applications available in the counseling office or apply at : www.elks.org  

 

January 15                    Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarship Essay Contest

Submit a 1,000 word essay, design a web site, create a mixed media presentation or submit an artistic piece of work addressing the topic of financial literacy.   Specific questions are listed on the application. January 31                    Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarships (JUNIORS ONLY)

A listing of 27 scholarships with specific qualifications.   You may apply for 1 scholarship from the 27 listed.   Must have 3.0 GPA.   Scholarships for majors in education, music, interpreter for the deaf, veterinarian medicine, many others. Go to: ESA application

 

February 1                      Sam Walton Community Scholarship Program

Each Wal Mart Store awards two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors from the community in which they are operating. Application, transcript, proof of SAT or ACT score, and copy of Parents' Federal Income Tax Return must be submitted   by February 1st. Go to: www.walmartfoundation.org

February 4                       Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber Scholarship

Must be Hispanic student with a 2.75 GPA attending a college or university in the Fall of 2006.   14 different scholarships are available with a single application. Applicants must come from a farm worker household. Must submit application, two letters of recommendation, have a high school diploma or GED, and answer no less than a 250 word essay. February 13                    The Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants

This program is a college program that integrates classroom studies with paid, productive, real life work experience in a related field. February 15               John Gyles Education Award

Full Canadian or American citizenship is a requirement. Awards are available to both male and female students in all areas of post-secondary study.  Minimum GPA of 2.7 is required. Criteria other than academic eligibility and finanical need are considered in the selection process. Select students will receive up to $3000. March 1                          Elizabeth Baricevic, Josefina Botta Memorial Scholarships

Scholarships for students in 3 rd year or above second language. Applicants must rank in upper one third of senior class, and have earned a cumulative 3.5 GPA in second language. March 1                           USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIPS  FOR ARLINGTON  HIGH STUDENTS

There are a huge number of scholarships available through getcollegefunds.org  Follow the link, go to the scholarship link on the left, then to the appropriate scholarship link on the top of the that page.  Most of the Arlington area ones will be under OSAC (Oregon Student Assistance Commission) scholarships.  You will have to fill out the search boxes, but it will help dramatically in searching for scholarships you fulfill the criteria for.   By filling out the application, you will be actually be able to apply for every scholarship the OSAC administers so be sure it is accurate; and that you have looked thoroughly at every scholarship.  OSAC will NOT look at your application and pick scholarships, it will only check to make sure you qualify for the ones you select.  The deadline for ALL OSAC administered scholarships is March 1st.
