GILLIAM COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

Due April 29

Walsh Trucking. Arlington Terminal, has established an educational fund to assist the youth of Gilliam County in obtaining training beyond high school.

Walsh Trucking., Arlington Terminal has been allotted the sum of $1,000.00 per year to be awarded to scholarships.  Two scholarships in the amount of $250.00 each will be awarded to students at Arlington High School, and two scholarships in the amount of $250.00 each will be awarded to students at Condon High School, providing the following qualifications are met:

1.      Scholarships are available to students who are graduating seniors from high schools in Gilliam County.

2.      Scholarships are available to pay related costs of training at any educational institution beyond grade twelve, including accredited universities, community colleges, vocational schools, or for any other training that will aid in making a livelihood.  Scholarships are for full-time students only.

3.      Scholarships will be awarded based on demonstrated academic ability and financial need.  Please attach copy of your high school transcript.

4.      A committee comprised of Walsh Trucking  personnel  will select scholarship winners.

5.      Scholarship checks will be issued in the name of the school and/or training faculty chosen by the winner.  Winners should notify the Arlington Walsh Trucking Terminal office manager of their choice of school so a check can be issued.

6.      Scholarships awarded must be used by March 15, 2010.

7.      All applications must be received in the Arlington Walsh Trucking office by April 29, 2009. The mailing address for the Arlington office is:

Gilliam County Scholarship Application Procedure

A letter of application is to be submitted along with the completed application forms, which are attached.  The letter should include the following items:

1.      Brief resume of high school activities, honors, and areas of special interest.  

2.      Brief description of type of training you plan to take.

3.      Brief descriptions of ways in which your high school program have prepared you for this training.

4.      Estimate of time required for completion of training program.

5.      Brief description of your plans following completion of your training.

6.      List of community activities to date.

7.      Explanation as to how you have prepared for post-high school training financially.  Examples: Sources of savings, work experience, application for financial aid and scholarships, etc.  Explanation as to how you intend to maintain your finances for college.

The following items are to be submitted along with completed forms and letter of application:

1.      The attached rating form that has been completed by your high school principal or guidance counselor.
2.      A personal letter of reference from someone not in your family and not connected with your school.
3.      An official 7th semester transcript that shows your courses, grades, and cumulative grad point average through the 7th high school semester and your aptitude test scores (SAT or ACT).
