The selection committee shall judge each application on these criteria: academic achievement, written communication skills, participation and leadership in school activities, community involvement and financial need.  Points shall be granted in accordance with the scale shown below.  Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) for consideration for this scholarship shall be 2.5.

Academic Achievement (30%)  
Grade Pt. Average under 2.50 - 2.99     10 pts.
Grade Pt. Average under 3.00 - 3.25     15 pts.
Grade Pt. Average under 3.26 - 3.50     20 pts. 
Grade Pt. Average under 3.51 - 3.75     25 pts.
Grade Pt. Average under 3.76 - 4.0       30 pts.

Communication Skills (25%)
Grant 0-25 points on the basis of the applicants ability to express his/her thoughts.  Points should be granted with the consideration for sentence structure, vocabulary usage, punctuation, and spelling.

Participation and Leadership in School (20%)
Grant 0-20 points on the basis of the students active involvement in the school,  Include clubs, organizations, and events outside of the normal academic realm.  Extra points should be for taking a leadership role (i.e., club officer, class officer, etc.)

Community Involvement (15%)
Grant 0-15 points on the basis of the students active involvement in his/her community.  The applicant must complete an essay style answer giving details on his/her involvement.  Points may be granted upon the recommendation letters of community businessmen and leaders.

This application is essay style.  Your ability to express yourself and to organize your thinking is important.  Please limit your total responses to two pages.  Please use the space provided.  Attach to your application a copy of your  OREGON SECONDARY TRANSCRIPT.

  1. Type a short statement on what career you would like to pursue and why.


  2. SCHOOL ACTIVITIES:    List the high school activities, clubs, and organizations you have participated in.  Indicate those in which you have played a leadership role (i.e., officer or coordinator), and how many years you participated.

  3. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:   Type a short statement on your activities in community affairs, clubs, organizations outside of school, and why you participate.
