Following a press release from Governor Brown and updated guidance from the Oregon Department of Education on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, Arlington School District is working towards finalizing plans for reopening school in Fall 2020. Districts were given updated guidance that included metrics for cases that schools need to follow in order to hold in-person instruction. These metrics include case rate per 100,000, test positivity rate and are calculated over a consecutive three-week period of time.
We are anticipating additional guidance from ODE for rural schools, with the hope of accommodations that would allow us the option to have in-person instruction. However, based on current state requirements, Gillam County would need to look at the possibility of beginning school with a distance learning model.
Our distance learning model will be based on our teachers developing student packets. Once state guidelines are met, we will move to a hybrid model of learning which will consist of an A and B day schedule. For parents who would like an online option, the district will provide instruction through the Accelus learning curriculum.
Once we receive the final guidance from ODE for rural schools, we will finalize our reopening plans and offer detailed information. These guidelines will include learning options, registration information, student supply list.
Arlington School District is committed to providing the best learning options for your child. I appreciate your understanding as we work through the state guidelines to ensure your child’s safety. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Brandon Hammond
